“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another,
as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”
1 Peter 4:10 (English Standard Version)

We have four focus areas where women can become involved
and use their gifts and talents.

  • Worship Each event will include prayer and a song or music to praise God and help women center on the teaching and be open to God working in their lives.

            Leader : Everette Kerr

  • Fellowship – Each event is open to all women. Fellowship allows us the opportunity to get to know one another better, and in turn, we will be able to better minister to each other in prayer and encouragement.

            Leader: Barbara Anderson

  • Discipleship – Women involved in Bible Studies will pray together and learn how to walk with the Lord through the study of God’s word. It is a time of studying the Bible, asking questions, encouraging one another and praying together.

            Leader: Florie Matthews

  • Service - All women are encouraged to serve in some ministry in our church or in the community by developing a servant attitude and using their talents and gifts.

            Leader: Cora Thorne

TRANSITION HOUSE
OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE

Philosophy & Strategy

Transition House was started by volunteers in the community who took personal responsibility for their neighbors in need. Volunteers continue to do meaningful and essential work at Transition House. 1,200 volunteers account for 25% of agency resources.

Transition House has adopted a philosophy to explain the underlying causes of family homelessness. Using that philosophy as a basis, a strategy has evolved to solve homelessness for capable and motivated families, and to end their reliance on public assistance.

The philosophy is that the root cause of family homelessness is poverty. There may be other contributing factors, but underlying it all is poverty.

To solve family homelessness and welfare dependence, Transition House helps families find ways to alleviate their poverty. Staff and volunteers work with them to discover, or sometimes create, realistic avenues to meet the goal of safe and affordable housing, a good and meaningful job that pays a decent living wage, and access to high quality childcare that is within the family's means. While working toward these goals, Transition House provides family centered support through strong case management and supportive services.

The program Transition House has conceived and implemented is having remarkable results. On average, 60% return to permanent housing with the economic means to sustain it.
